Had Sherlock been a few inches closer to normal, he'd often reflected, he probably would have gone into archaeology for the chance to spend his life unraveling the distant history in cities like this, solving mysteries generations removed from his own life.
But archaeology probably wouldn't have thrown him into the path of a talented and gorgeous pathologist, so he had no real regrets.
